Project C.O.P.E. at Camp Birch for 2008-2009

C.O.P.E. is the Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience (C.O.P.E.) program of the Boy Scouts of America. COPE is an excellent program for teenage youth and adults. Low COPE and combined low and high COPE events can be tailored to your unit’s goals and objectives for things such as Troop Leader Training, teen or adult leader retreats, high adventure crew team building, and/or fit within any weekend outing at Camp Birch.

Low COPE Events - is a great tool for team building and challenges that focus on group cooperation, planning and communication.

  • Initiative Games – fun games that challenge the group to work together
  • Over a dozen low cope events - including the Wall, Artesian Beams, Islands, the Beam, All Aboard, TP Shuffle, Trolley, Whale Watcher, Porthole, Giant’s Thumb, Spider Web, Blind Maze and more
  • A low cope session runs 3 to 4 hours

High COPE Events - (sometimes referred to as the ropes course) is more of an individual challenge, like climbing, with 10 events 30 feet off-the-ground.

  • High COPE can be run in conjunction with low cope or stand-alone
  • The 10 event course includes the Caving Ladder, Burma Bridge, Multi-vine Traverse, Pirate’s Crossing, Sky Walk, Slack-line Traverse, Monkey Bridge, Three-line Bridge, Plank Bridge and the Zip Line
  • A high cope session runs 3 to 4 hours

Scout and Scout Leader Participant Requirements:

  • The minimum age to participate in COPE is 13 years old
  • Membership in the Boy Scouts of America or affiliated organization
  • Permission and release forms
  • The minimum number of participants is 10

Scheduling and Cost:

  • Contact the COPE Committee Chairman - RLDes@aol.com
  • Schedule at least 3 weeks in advance
  • Scheduling is subject to the availability of qualified instructors
  • Low COPE is $15/ea, High COPE is $35/ea, combined is $45/ea
  • Special Offer: Friday – Sunday COPE and Climbing weekend, $50/ea including camping fees if reservation is made prior to 12/30/2008 (can be run in the spring, just need the reservation in by the end of the year).
