Herodias Gets Her Way
How To Get a Head in Life
This passage reads like a soap opera! Herodias is at once Herod's niece (daughter of Aristobulus, his half-brother), sister-in-law, wife and just plain evil. Herod seems to fear peer pressure more than he fears a messenger from God, so John dies a very inglorious death. How often are we like Herod, giving in to peer pressure? May we have the strength to be more like John the Baptist who held fast to his beliefs, even in the face of great personal risk.
