Blessed are the merciful, forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, love your neighbor as yourself, ..., the themes are fairly clear, especially within the church. This passage comes right after the teaching on how to settle a dispute, so again, it doesn't mean to be a doormat (forgiveness is a two-way process), but it certainly suggests that we need to be in touch with the spirit of forgiveness. We should be thankful that God has forgiven us, acknowledge it, and then go and do the same.
