Tae Kwon Do Invocations

December 2001 --by Rich Diesslin

Please take a prayerful or meditative posture as I give the invocation for today’s ceremony.

Lord, as students we come here today show what we have learned and to be evaluated so that we may continue to learn; as instructors we gather to evaluate in order to teach.

In this spirit, we reflect on the student creed ...

Help us to be:

1. Loyal to our country -- protecting freedom

2. Obedient to our parents -- learning to be good followers in order to be good leaders

3. Lovable with our spouse -- sharing love is the essence of our being

4. Cooperative with brothers and sisters -- peaceful co-existence begins at home

5. Respectful to our elders -- showing respect in order to receive it

6. Faithful to our friends -- treating others as we want to be treated

7. Honorable with our instructors -- being thankful for the time they share with us

8. Discreet with the use of Tae Kwon Do, using it justly -- understanding that force is the last resort of good people

9. Brave -- standing up for good, it will win in the long run

10. Consistent, always finishing what you start -- accomplishment is the feeling we get when we when we look back and realize we stuck with it!

Lord, inspire in us a right attitude to wisely use these skills that we are learning for our health, for good and for peace.

We ask this in your name, amen.

God, we come to this test with a pure heart and a focused mind to demonstrate what we have learned through patience and perserverance.

Give us the strength to do our best here today, with an attitude of openness to learn and improve our skills.

Grant us wisdom, discretion and insight to evaluate, encourage, and guide our fellow students toward better technique and a stronger spirit.

We are thankful for students who assist us, our family and friends which support us, and our instructors who teach us.

Inspire in us a right attitude to wisely use these skills that we have learned for good and peace.

We ask this in your name, amen.

God created this day for gain not loss, success not failure, positive actions not negative thoughts.

Guide these students to the understanding that they are not here so much to test, but more to demonstrate what they have learned through patience and perserverance.

Give them the strength to do their best here today, with an attitude of openness to learn and improve their skills.

Grant wisdom, discretion and insight to the instructors as they evaluate, encourage, and guide students toward improvement in technique and spirit.

We are thankful for fellow students who assist us, our family and friends which support us, and instructors who teach us.

Inspire in us a right attitude to wisely use these skills that we have learned for good and peace.

Lord, be with us as our guide now and forever. Amen.
