The Twelve Years of Christmas ...
The Cartoon Days of Christmas started in 2003 as the Twelve Cartoon Days of Christmas (hence TCDC) providing a new cartoonist's cartoons for each of 12 days leading up to Christmas. TCDC as an annual event was inspired by Pete Delgado's annual Halloween cartoonfest called Zombie-A-Go-Go or ZAGG. Over the next few years it became clear that TCDC should run for all of December, with all the cartoons available all the time. Afterall, in addition to celebrating the fun in Christmas, it is also an opportunity for a bunch of cartooonists to display their talents. It also seems fitting to once again employ The Twelve Days of Christmas song in celebrating our 12th year of TCDC and the telling of Twas the Night before TCDC! (Left side margin)
And now for this Year's TCDC ...

Meet the Cartoonist:
Senior TCDC Contributor Larry Miller III of Peoria, Illiinois has been a published cartoonist since the publication of his first cartoon in August of 1974 in "Model Railroader Magazine" and he continued selling cartoons and illustrations to similar publications throughout the mid 1980s. Larry peaked his out put during his college years as the cartoonist "Mr. N" of the "Harbinger" (the Student Newspaper for Illinois Central College) where he attended part-time from 1975 through 1980. Such cartoon panels as "Captain Boredom", "Barlap 4" and "Reasons Why Students Commit Suicide" were regular features, along with half-page panels and editorial cartoons. Most of Larry's early works were created in the pen and ink format with marker and watercolor added after inking. He now scans his original ink renderings to computer and adds the color and shading in PhotoShop. He is currently producing cartoons for greeting cards as well as insurance, health and business internet newsletters. He produces panels and strips to individual order and can be reached by clicking the e-mail link above. |

Meet the Cartoonist:
Fellow TCDC alumnus Sean Boley graces us with his twisted presence once again this year, bringing his typical off-the-wall humor to the yuletide table. And for the first time since his arrival to TCDC of seemingly many light years ago, Sean is introducing his own characters to the "Merry Christmas" mix -- which happen to be a couple of worms named Bob (their background story is too long to print here ... just ask Sean, he'll gladly tell you!).* His ongoing pursuit of that holy grail of an art career is still going strong, and there's been some interesting changes along the way ... most notably having recently landed a comic strip gig, plus is also collaborating with another artist on some projects. And as if that weren't enough to keep him busy, he's also proud owner of his own small business, "SB Designs." Sean can be reached at kr2nist@yahoo.com, and you can find his artwork either on his Facebook profile or on his page, www.facebook.com/seanboleydesigns. *Editor's Note: Sean thinks he's introducing the worms this year but he also used them in 2009 but perhaps their collective names were not Bob then. ;) |

Meet the Cartoonist:
Jose Villena and David Tomaselli join us again this year! Jose Villena graduated in Economics and has worked for over ten years in the department of marketing and advertising as an art director in various companies. Currently he is a freelance designer, illustrator and co-author, with David Tomaselli, of the comic strip "Onion & Pea". Since his early childhood he has always wanted to be a cartoonist to capture on paper all those crazy pictures and stories that come to his mind. Besides drawing and painting, he loves movies, music and martial arts. He is happily married and lives with his wife in Malaga, Spain, making his dreams come true. David Tomaselli born in Malaga, Spain, currently lives in Zurich, Switzerland, where he combines his engineering job with writing the comic strip "Onion & Pea" of which he is co-author with Jose Villena. David and Jose met in high school over twenty years ago where they discovered they had in common their passion for comics, a passion that began to develop professionally over five years ago. He is currently obsessed with learning German in order to talk to Gordo, his German shepherd, who never listens to him. Right now, the dog merely snores. |

Eleanor (the Emu Whisperer) Perno
Merry Christmas from Down Under!*
* = To be perfectly honest I was faced with a deadline (while doing cartooning course/ink drawing) and pictured an emu trying to skate and, of course, getting himself completely tangled up - long neck and long legs attached to a bundle of feathers. There is, of course, the Australian Version of the 12 Days of Christmas which, on the 2nd Day of Christmas, has an Emu up a Gum Tree! (If you want to see the complete lyrics: http://alldownunder.com/australian-music-songs/twelve-days-of-christmas.htm) but I was not even aware of those lyrics when I drew the Christmas Emu. -Eleanor

Meet the Cartoonist:
TCDC welcomes a new cartoonist to the mix this year - Eleanor Perno. In all of her 76 years she has loved cartoons and thought it was time to try herself. Sso she did and completed a TAFE (Australia) Cartooning Course in 2010 and, afterward, created a series of cartoons about Emu. This cartoon above, THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS, is one of them. Her full name: Eleanor Mary Perno (she signs things emperno or emp). She lives in a retirement village on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. She and her husband are part of a classical music group - he plays concert and alto flute; and she plays piano, classical and bass guitar and harp. Reading, Writing, Music, Poetry and Drawing have been the Hobbies of her Life. Charles Schultz PEANUTS has been her constant companion for decades; Snoopy especially! |

Meet the Cartoonist:
Donnie Pitchford of Carthage, Texas decided to be a cartoonist 50 years ago, but few five-year-olds get hired. After working in the graphic arts industry a while, he majored in commercial art and art education, and decided on a "temporary" career as an educator (1983-2010). He ended up teaching broadcasting for 25 of those years, but the desire to "draw funny pitchers" persisted. He started the weekly "Lum and Abner" comic strip (which includes an audio adaptation) in 2011. This strip, based on the popular radio comedy show and movies of the 1930s-50s, can be seen and heard each week at www.lumandabnersociety.org. The "Lum and Abner" strip without audio is available at www.gocomics.com/lum-and-abner and in some Arkansas newspapers. Other work includes a cover painting, digital coloring, hand lettering, and scripting for Argo Press ("Charlton Spotlight Comics"), and co-editing the 2015 book "Tom Sutton's Creepy Things" for Yoe Books/IDW. Donnie Pitchford is a member of the Southeast Chapter of the National Cartoonists Society. |
